Our house!


This is our little house in Richmond, New Zealand!  Complete with our very own lemon tree!!  You can just see the hills in the background, which are a short walk away and boast great hiking trails, mountain biking, and amazing views. The little plate (a gift from my friend Bethany) hangs in my kitchen and reminds me of my greatly missed cat, Basil, who is at home in Victoria.

    That is a really cute house! I love the lemon tree - have you tried one yet? The yellow flowers are also very unique. Trust Bethany to come up with such a unique gift! Thanks for the blog update!

      Yeah, I've used lots of lemons already..made lemonies (like lemon brownies) yesterday, and have been using them in other recipes and in tea! They are yummy!!

Back in February, I was lucky enough to have two good friends from home visit me. First came Katie. It was so nice to have a friend come in and visit me at the cafe, and I was glad to prove to my co-workers that I really did have friends!!! Queenstown

Alright, so we made it to Queenstown, and again, managed to set up our tent just before it started raining. And rain it did! For the 3 days we were there, it poured almost non-stop. We didn't let that spoil our fun though. First of all, the campground we stayed at was the coolest campground I have ever seen! There were quirky little touches at every turn, and lots of re-purposed items that were super funky. The common areas were also the best I've seen, which was good, considering the time we spent indoors! Awesome outdoor kitchen at the campsite Neat old parking meters at the campground Queenstown is an adventure based city, with lots and lots of fun things to keep you busy. We shopped, dined and explored, and hit most of the attractions not to be missed. When the rain became especially heavy, we ducked into cafes and ate warm cookies at "Cookie Time" and also killed some time at the same fudge shop we found in Arrowtown. Bay of Islands!

Back in Richmond, with our beach holiday fresh in our minds, Katie and I decided to plan our next adventure. We started looking for last minute travel deals, but quickly discovered that they don't exist in New Zealand. Here, the early bird gets the worm; plan your vacation 6 months in advance, and you get the bargains. Determined not to let that spoil our fun or blow our budget, we decided to try our luck at flying stand-by. Armed with our carry on bags and in search of some fun, we crossed our fingers and got David to drop us off at the airport. We were off to a good start, having arrived in Auckland a few hours later, thrilled at our luck so far. Lunch in Auckland We quickly decided on an evening flight to the Bay of Islands, and hung out in Auckland for the day.
